"What if the expense is your life?" "At any cost! Fulfilling this lifetime desire means the world to me. I'm famished, in urgent need of refreshment; and this is the only available source for me. 'To be, or not to be, that is the question.' To do means to be."

Wishes being fulfilled, starvation nourished, the man was at the culmination of his irreplaceable ambition; meters and meters high above the restrictions of the mortals and their home. Numb with cold, shortage of food, sleeplessness, and laborious endeavor his conscious impression was ways away from his fantasized to-be reflection. Haunted by cold wearisome breaths, he was deprived of the complete pleasure he expected.

The preceding paragraph presents a paraphrase of the opening lines of an article called "Into Thin Air". The leading idea behind the main text is taking risks, but an ambitious venturesome reader would probably get the pessimistic perspective of the author towards the idea of ardently chasing dreams. This point of view is deliberately reflected in the title as it provides the readers with a concise quick summary of the whole text.  But then all unexpectedly, the very first sentence goes the opposite way and describes how spectacularly marvelous the achievement was. As it follows, there's such a descending flow of ambitious pleasure that the man hardly takes in his surroundings. Then by over and over again talking about how tough, harmful, and energy consuming the experience has been; the author takes away all the former desire and closes the paragraph conveying negative feelings.
